Life On Mars

soft news

Living everyday life on Earth can be tough. The constant stress and anxiety that life brings about can have an effect on someone in a variety of different ways, good or bad. But just imagine reliving these things on the foreign ground. Another country? Sure, but another planet? That’s something else.

For years astronomers have pondered about the mysteries surrounding life on another plane and whether or not we could leave the world as we know it. It’s a scary thought but at the same time very thrilling. Recently funding for the Mars One program has gone up and a few people are being selected to go to Mars to live the rest of their days. Mars One aims to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars and prove to the world that people can survive on Mars.

This is an extremely big deal for many people, especially astronomers and those who work specifically in the space program as many scientific discoveries can be made which can further advance the growth of technology and the scope of our minds. By allowing humans to survive on another planet, it allows us to be able to think outside of the box and essentially expands our imagination by making the impossible possible.

A main driving force of the Mars One mission is pure curiosity. A lot of times curiosity gets the better of us but in this case, curiosity will define our humanity and fulfill our purpose as adventurous individuals. Many questions are asked: where did Mars come from? Can it teach us about Earth’s history? Is there life on Mars? These are just 3 of the most frequently asked questions by scientists all over the world and now that humanity is so close to discovering something new, maybe some of these questions will have an answer. But who knows, maybe we’ll only be uncovering more questions… it’s just a matter of time before we find out.

Time

The most frightening part of life is not the absence of time, but the realization of how much of it you really have.

This year being my final year of high school has truly had an effect on me that I did not expect. I finally realized what time is. I guess one could say I should have realized it long ago but it wasn’t until I dug up one of my old yearbooks while cleaning up my workspace did I realize what a life I have led.

To think that everything was coming to a close and that in the coming months I may not see the people I was closest to ever again. It really is a scary thought. It makes me wonder whether or not what I did in the past was right. I know it’s not a healthy thought to ponder on but sometimes it has to be done. The years I’ve spent building relationships and being the best person I could possibly be while at the same time being the person my parents wanted me to be has ultimately consumed 100% of my time, so do I regret it? Truthfully I don’t know.

There’s been a lot good that has resulted from the bad while at the same time there’s been a lot of bad… resulting from the good. The way it all works…It will always be a mystery, and admittedly I hate it. As time passes, more questions are being asked than questions being answered. Maybe I’ll figure it all out.

I have dedicated my entire blog to the subject of time.

So let’s begin, shall we? I think we’ve wasted enough of it.

Generations Wasted

roll-dice-of-fortune

We are the ones we have been looking for.

I have thought about this statement for years now. Because of this, each and every day I feel I must do something great. I have to be able to leave a footprint on Earth and most of all, I must be able to change this world somehow. We can never change the past and time will not wait for us. We must be able to make the right choices and take the right paths at the correct time in order to achieve the best possible outcome. One small decision can completely alter one’s destiny and that is what I am most afraid of. We as humans have the power to completely change someones life with every single decision we make. Each and every step counts. For this reason, I hate chance. Chance is pure evil. The problem is that we can never avoid it. Everything we do in life is essentially us taking a chance. Whether it’s going out for a stroll or riding a bike or even going to your freezer to get some ice cream. You are always taking chances.

Now reflect upon your life. Think about every decision you have made. Whether it is small or large. Now think about what would have happened if you said something else or did something different. Could you imagine how different things would be? Do you now realize the significance of your choices? It is honestly quite frightening once you really delve deep into your memories. The chance that you could very well be doing something different right now instead of reading this. The chance that I could be somewhere else instead of writing this. It all comes down to chance. While it may be frightening, it is also very fascinating at the same time. Your chances determine your fortunes.

Let’s get to the point. I have exhausted the fact that everything we do in life formulates our path to the future. The reason I am sharing this is because I feel we should stop looking for the hero that will change the world. We as humans imagine this ideal “hero” to have made perfect choices. Why can we not be this hero? Why must we wait for this individual to bless us? Generations after generations, we have complained about numerous things in this world whether it be global warming, over use of fossil fuels, currency rates, or any other diplomatic situation. The choices we make in life now at this moment count and we must choose wisely. We must be the ones we have been looking for and we must not have any regrets.

However, this is where chance comes in to play. If there is ANYTHING that will truly destroy humanity, it is taking chances.

The Interview. No, not the one with Seth Rogen

I decided to interview my cousin who also lives here in Calgary. I felt that it would be a crime to not know someone that is related to me who also lives relatively close. We have gotten closer because of this interview and the questions I asked so I recommend anyone out there, that wants to get to know someone, to try and use some of my questions. Also remember to talk to them with blurred eyes. Take what you will from that.

Q: Who are your heroes?

A: Heroes as in people I look up to? Well one of them would be Batman. Sure he’s a fictional character but he really shows a lot of qualities that a leader would posses. Courage, strength, dignity just to name a few. In my opinion he surpasses a lot of “leaders” in today’s society even though he doesn’t exist.

Q: Where did you go to school?

A: Well i’m still going to school.. but I go to Connect Charter School

Q: What are your parents like?

A: As you can probably guess, they’re pretty strict and only care about my grades! I’m sure you can relate to this. They also didn’t let me go to my friends halloween party so that was just great.

Q: What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: Probably go on vacation for the rest of my life. But really I would buy a few cars, some houses, and a lot of food.

Q: Was there anything that you had to overcome as a child?

A: Well I was afraid of the dark for the longest time and up until when I was 9 I thought I had permanent nyctophobia. My parents eventually got really fed up and forced me to face my fears and well I did it.

Q: If you could choose one superhero power, what would it be, and why?

A: Hmm… you know what, I think I’d like to be invisible. I could get away with pretty much ANYTHING if I was invisible. That being said, I would want anything I touch to become invisible as well. Could you imagine the things I could pull off?

Q: What sort of travels have you had?

A: I’ve been to multiple places in the US although I can only remember a few off the top of my head like Boston, New York, Anaheim, and Las Vegas. I have also been to Pakistan multiple times as most of my relatives live there. Other than those places I haven’t really been anywhere else.

Q: If you were an animal, what would you be, and why?

A: Ugh a tough one. I think I would be an eagle. An eagle specifically because not only can it fly but also because an eagle symbolizes strength and courage or whatever and I think that’s pretty cool. Being better than everyone AND being able to fly. What more do you want?

Q: Have you ever had any pets? If so, can you describe them?

A: I’ve had 2 goldfishes once. They didn’t last very long and they were expensive. At first I really wanted them and I really wanted a pet to keep but eventually my hype died and in turn, so did the fishes. Not that I deliberately killed them or anything its just that they happened to die right when I didn’t care anymore.

Q: What has been your most terrifying moment?

A: It was in a haunted house in Universal Studios. First and foremost i’m pretty easy to scare so I wasn’t really going in with much hope. I was walking along a dark and narrow passage and then suddenly a guy with a chainsaw appears at the end of the passage. The worst part was that it seemed like a real live chainsaw. He was at the end of the passage and there was no way of getting out. They sealed the doors behind us and the only way to go was straight ahead. I screamed so loud when he came right at us. Suddenly he disappeared right when my heart was about to give way. Say what you want but that was pretty damn scary, for me at least.
